Blogging Is Fun!

Are you a beginner in blogging and still have no idea what to do? Or you’ve already been blogging for a period of time but you haven’t found the fun of blogging yet? Those happened in my first months of blogging as well. So, here I share some tips and the story of my blog that I have actually told in some posts. To my followers who have already read the story of how I started my blog, please pretend that you haven’t. 😛

I started my WP blog in early 2014 and had no idea what to write about, and I left it with no post at all for weeks. Then, I started posting football articles. I used to talk and have debate about football on twitter, so I thought why didn’t I just write all my opinions on my blog? Moreover, I was really frustrated that time regarding the fact that the performance of my favourite football club Manchester United -when David Moyes took in charge as manager- was so terrible. Also, I was saddened by the departure of my favourite player Nemanja Vidic. So, I delivered all my sadness and anger into long writing, no need to moan about the character limit, unlike on twitter. But I got no response for my articles. I rarely published post in the first few months of blogging. I only posted poems, photographs, football match short reviews, and some random thoughts after. In December, I participated in Writing 201 Longform, one of Blogging-U online courses by DailyPost. We were given a certain topic to write every week. I gained my followers and started blog-walking. And now, I join Blog English Club (BEC), an Indonesian club for English Learning. Just like Writing201, in BEC the members are also given the different topic to write every week.

Through Writing 201 and BEC, I’m connected with many awesome fellow bloggers who have great writings. It encourages me to write more and, of course, to publish the better writings. I enjoy blog-walking so much now. I learn much from many bloggers with different backgrounds. Yes, now I find blogging is so fun! So, based on my experience, I want to share some tips for you – new bloggers- who still have no idea what to do with your blogs:

  • Create your blog based on what you passionate about. It doesn’t matter if you have many interests like me, though. Or you just want to post your personal thoughts? It’s okay. Whatever you want to blog, just make it your own.
  • Be brave to convey your thoughts. Explore your ideas and just write what you want. But remember, you should prevent from writing things that lead you to racist or bullying behaviour, impolite, rude, or full of hatred posts.
  • Create your own style of writing. Be original. There’s no problem if you want to try a different style of writing sometimes or if you’re inspired by others and you want to be like them. But don’t try too hard to become a person who is not you.
  • Follow people who have the same interests like yours. If you’re interested in photography, just follow photographers or people who are interested in photography too. If you’re interested in poetry, follow poets. But I tell you, it’s also nice to follow people from any backgrounds with different interests.
  • Participate in some writing or photo challenges like Daily Prompt, Weekly Writing Challenge, Weekly Photo Challenge, etc. It’s fun, I guarantee.
  • Join some communities or participate in blogging courses like Blogging-U courses that held by DailyPost. It will make you connected with nice people and you’ll get new experiences.
  • Do blog-walking. Start talking to new people and give feedback to each other. It will not only make your blog visitors become more engaged, but also give you more knowledge and insight. The more you meet new people, the more you’ll learn.

Those are some tips from me that I actually haven’t done all myself since I haven’t been so long in blogging yet. But no need to be a senior blogger first to share some tips, right? I’m now learning to do a better blogging. But I don’t want to enforce myself to write every day, nor do I want to be a visitors-oriented blogger. I will post what I want on my blog. Well, that’s all I want to say. Thanks for reading. Happy Blogging! 🙂

P.S: If you haven’t created any blog, and you’re still confused which platform that you should sign up for your very first blog, just choose WP. You won’t regret! 😉

#ResolusiHijau2015 Alam Adalah Rumah Kita

“Nature is not a place to visit. It is home.” – Gary Snyder.

Benar sekali.

  • Mengurangi pemakaian kendaraan bermotor.

Kalau bukan kita, siapa lagi? Klise memang. Tetapi memang itu intinya. Act now! Do something for our country. For the environment, for nature, for the world.

“Here is your country. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the natural resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your children’s children. Do not let selfish men or greedy interests skin your country of its beauty, its riches or its romance.” – Theodore Roosevelt.

EF#2 My Wildest Dream

Actually, I’ve already published two similar posts about my dreams. I rewrite some sentences from those previous posts to this post. So, I’m sorry if this is not something new to read. It’s special for Blog English Club’s challenge, and the topic for this week is “WILDEST DREAM”.

Everyone has a dream. Some people have big dreams, some have the simple ones. Some people have managed to achieve their dreams, some failed to achieve theirs and choose to forget and move on. No one can guarantee someone will successfully achieve their dreams or not. Some people do not have specific dreams. For them, dream is only to achieve success in life. The most needed things to achieve dreams are willingness, prayer and effort. Luck may be part of life too. But don’t rely on luck, we cannot trust luck, because it sucks sometimes. We must stand on our own feet, work hard, and be the master of our own destiny. However, humans can only plan, pray, and do efforts. God is the only one who can decide what is best for us.

I have many dreams. One of my dreams is to become a novelist. I love to write and read. One of my favorite novelists is Jane Austen, the author of Pride and Prejudice. I really admire Elizabeth Bennet character in this novel. I love most of Jane Austen’s novels. I like her writing style and the way she described each character in her novels. I also read some of Julia Quinn’s books. She is a romance author as well. Yes, I love romance novels. I also love fantasy novels like J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, though.

I once fantasized about being an international novelist. Julia Quinn or Stephanie Meyer’s comment will be included in the comments field in my novel, and my novel will be adapted to a movie. I know you are like “Are you for real?” Or “What the …”. But the topic for this week is “Wildest Dream”, so don’t blame me 😀 But don’t take it seriously, it was just a daydream. I know it is laughable and a bit unreachable. I sometimes laugh at myself. I’ve never finished a novel, and if I ever manage to finish it, will it surely get published? Even it’s hard to be recognized by Indonesian publishers, how could I dare to dream that my novel will be published internationally?

To be honest, I realize that I am a lazy person. I can be inspired to write a story by anything. Once I got an idea, I can describe the plot, scenes, dialogue, and even the ending. But all is stuck in my head. I’m so lazy to write it. I’m so moody, I just write when I’m in good mood. That’s why I never did finish my novels. I have like ten drafts of my fictional writings on my laptop. But each just contains the prologue or the first chapters only. When I got a new idea, I’d write excitedly. But then I would leave it for days, months, and then forget it.

Quotation-Paul-Valery-dreams-best-Meetville-Quotes-95680

So what I can conclude here is that I shouldn’t think about my novels are going to be published or adapted to a movie whatsoever. But the important thing is I have to overcome the laziness first. I should be more disciplined and determined to finish my writings. Another important thing is that I have to improve my knowledge and insight, so I can produce good and worth reading books. And I shouldn’t dream too much, but I have to wake up and work hard to make it happen instead. Well, that’s my wildest dream. What’s yours? 🙂

Audience of One: Dear Dad

Daily Prompt: “Picture the one person in the world you really wish were reading your blog. Write her or him a letter.”

IMG00301
This orchid is one of beautiful plants in my dad’s garden.

Dear Dad,

You’ve been gone for almost 3 years but you’re still alive here in my heart. Dad, do you know how much I miss you? I wish you were here…

Dad… If I could go back to my old days when you were still here, I would do anything. Throwback, when I was just a little girl, you were the first person I would come to when I cried. You were my hero. You always encouraged me to catch my dreams and to always make you and mom proud.

Dad… You taught us, your children, to always be devoted to Allah, you taught us how to behave, how to overcome our problems, you taught us everything. You were the place where we would discuss with and ask for advice about anything. Do you know that we were so devastated when you passed away? We lost our leader…

Dad… Mom keeps telling us that she misses you . But she is a strong woman, she always tries to smile no matter how sad she is. Now what we have to do, as your last message, is to always make her feel happy. Her happiness is all that matters.

Dad… Thanks for everything. You’re gone but all the memories about you live on. Rest in peace, dad. I love you.

Reflection: Keep Moving Forward

What is the definition of success? What makes you a successful one? What things can make you succeed? I think everyone has different answers for those questions. And everyone has a different measurement of success. For me, success is not all about money and wealth, although they are parts of it. In my opinion, success is having a fine life by getting what you want and at the same time fulfilling what you need. Everyone has a different way to succeed. Some follow their interests, some succeed by doing thing they don’t really like but then they get used to it.

I am a big dreamer. I have a lot of dreams and passionate about many things. I love drawing, reading and writing fiction, designing a dress, photography, graphic design, making animations and games, and all multimedia related. Being a novelist, graphic designer, animator, game developer, having photography studio, and clothing line are my dreams. But, laziness is my friend, and I often do procrastination that becomes odds for my self-improvement. Personally, I am a good planner yet bad executor.

And things were going worse when I lost my father. To me, my parents are the reason for me to catch my dreams. Their smiles are the spirit for me. I would never think about losing both or either of them. My father is a strong character. He is strict, but he is also a democratic and open minded person. We love to discuss with him and ask him for opinions about anything. He knew the personality of his wife and children very well. He was such a great leader for us. Not only in our family, but he was also known as a lovable person by people who knew him. He was always keen to help people, he always told us to always do good deeds for the people around. He was that great, and we were so down when he passed away.

I was so depressed. It was such a mental breakdown for me. I became an introvert since then, had no interest to interact with people, forgot how to smile and laugh, and had no desire to think about my dreams anymore. It took so long for me to recover from my sadness. Until one day, my mom said, “Your father won’t be happy seeing you like this. We all love him. We all want him to always be with us. But Allah loves him more. Now, what you should do is chasing your dream as you promised your dad. Your future is bright ahead. Live your life, catch your dreams, be devoted to Allah, and send your prayers to your dad, that’s what all he wants from you now.” And then I realized how selfish I was. As much as I felt sad, my mom must be the saddest one. She lost her husband, her soul-mate, her everything. But my mom is a very strong woman, she doesn’t want to look sad, so her children won’t get worried.

Slowly, I tried to wake up, getting back to my life. I often feel like crying at times, but I get stronger every time I see my mother’s smile. I’m grateful I have my family and friends who always encourage me. I am the youngest in my family, so my sisters and brother are so patient and keep motivating me. But I’m not soon being a very motivated person. I know I am still so fragile. I don’t want to force myself too hard. I know I’m still doing my bad habit, like being lazy and procrastinating things I should do.

“The best way to make your dreams come true is to wake up.” – Paul Valery

I really want to be a novelist. Everything can inspire me to make a story. Once I have an idea, I can make all the storyline in my head, the scenes, the dialogues, even the ending. But all is stuck in my head. I’m so lazy to write it. I’m so moody, I just write when I’m in a good mood. That’s why I never did finish my novel. I have like ten drafts of my fictional writings on my laptop. But each just consists of the prologue or the first chapters of it. When I got a new idea, I’d write excitedly. But then I would leave it for days, months, and forget about it. I missed my chances to participate in some writing competitions. I already knew what I would write for those competitions, but I didn’t write it. I always said “I’ll start writing it tomorrow” and I said that every day. When the deadline of those competitions came, I got upset. A voice in my head got upset too, “You don’t even bother finishing your novels, why do you dare to dream they will get published?!” and I’d be like “Okay mate, that’s all my fault. Just blame me.”

I fancy myself being a graphic designer, animator, or game developer since I love making graphic design, animations, and some simple games. But I don’t think my works are brilliant and would stand out among those graphic designers, animators, and game developers’ who exist these days. I’m not confident to compete. I realize, I should have improved my skills, but I’m not determined to do so. I also planned to make photography studio and clothing line with my own brand and design. But what’s the use of planning if you don’t do the concrete things to make it real?

“If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl. But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.

That’s my honest confession. I am that bad. I feel so tired of my own thoughts sometimes. I don’t regret the mistakes I made, but I do regret the chances I missed. But I see no point in blaming myself now. I know I have to move forward from now on. Because, no matter how many people encourage me, I will stay the same if it’s not my own self who cares to change. And I realize I have to simplify my dreams. I mean I shouldn’t be too ambitious to reach many dreams in a short time. I am allowed to dream big, but I have to work hard and do real efforts to make my dreams happen. Anyway, 2014 has taught me lots of things, especially about appreciating time and being discipline. I have to wake up from failures, defeat my fears, strengthen my willingness, and build my confidence to catch my dreams. Hey 2015, I’m ready for your challenges!

Opinion Piece: People, Internet, Self Expression and Attention Seeking

In Response to Writing 201 Week Three Assignment: Opinion Piece

Talking about attention, it can never be separated from human life. When we were born, our cries would be the center of attention, happily welcomed especially by our parents. When we were babies, we learnt to speak, our funny babble would get fully attention from our parents and it entertained everyone who saw it. And when we learnt to walk, our parents would applaud when they saw us taking the first step. Their attentions encouraged us to take the next step. So basically, attention is something that can motivate. As we grow, we will get attentions not only from our parents or family, but from a broader scope as we start interacting with many people. And we will get more variety of attentions.

Attention is also closely related to the way people express themselves. Everyone has different way to express themselves. There are people who can easily express themselves by speaking, others prefer to express themselves through music, writing, or even drawing. There are people who express themselves in simple ways, some are quite extreme. The way people express themselves that sometimes leads to the term attention seeker. So, is seeking attention always bad?

Now let’s talk about the relation between attentions, the way people express themselves and the internet, particularly social media. On twitter, people will be glad if their tweets get many retweets, favorites, or replies. A good tweet will attract many followers. On facebook, people will be happy if their posts get many likes and comments. Likewise in Instagram, people will be happy if their photos or videos get a lot of likes and comments. People are eager to upload good photos on Instagram, whether it’s the picture of them or things related to fashion, artworks, photography etc. Retweets, favorites, likes, and comments on social media are the examples of attention. Although we initially just wanted to express ourselves, but if we get those kinds of attentions, we will be happy and feel appreciated. Just like in blogging. We will create a blog with the name, title, and good design to make it look attractive. We will make our posts as good as possible. We will be excited if we find people who have the same interests with us.

In my opinion, the use of internet as the way to express can give positive things like the followings:

• Helping people to express themselves
Not everyone is easy to express themselves. Someone who is shy and not really good at speaking, sometimes feels more comfortable to convey their thoughts, experiences, or anything about them in writings. So, some media like twitter and blog are good places for them. We might already hear some stories, such as there is someone who is very active talking on twitter, is actually a nerd in real life. Or people who are very good at writing blog posts are sometimes very awkward in their real social lives. That doesn’t mean they are fake. They just feel more comfortable to speak through writings.

• Creativity and Self Improvement
The attention that we get is such as an appreciation of our expressions and works that drives us into a creative person and furthermore to improve. On twitter, people will try to make great words fit in 140 characters. The fashion people will be excited uploading their fashion stuff and styles, and will look for new styles to update their fashion looks. The photographers will increasingly produce nice photographs and he will further develop their abilities in order to get the better photographs. Articles that we make on a blog, we will read them over again before publishing it. We would edit, repair some parts, and checking the grammatical errors in order to publish good writings.

• Sharing Information and Knowledge
We can also share information, knowledge, and inspiration. A blogger’s article can be useful to people who need information related to this article. The fashion bloggers and fashion people on Instagram will inspire others with their fashion style, and it will probably be so helpful for people who have problems in fashion. The professional photographers could inspire people who love photography to learn more about photography. Social media and blog could be great places for sharing with people who have the same interest. They will give feedback and inputs to each others. And some make communities in real life that originated from their communities on the internet.

• Finding Talents
Many people who have certain talents, or who have great artworks but do not know where to share them. Internet is the right place for them. Many famous writers who have best seller books came from blogging. And many fashion consultants who were initially just bloggers who often wrote about their fashion styles or uploaded their fashion looks on Instagram. And there are a lot of stories of famous people who succeed because of their activities on the internet. From zero to hero.

So, there is nothing wrong with self-expression and the desire to get attention as long as we do it in positive ways. However, for some people, self-expression and attention seeking can be annoying if it is excessive and inappropriate. They think that wanting attention is okay, but probably the behaviour of people in doing it is sometimes way too much. For examples, some might feel bothered by those parody accounts on twitter or those who like copying someone’s tweets. Some might not really like to see someone who loves posting loads of selfies within a short time, and some might not like seeing people who keep showing off their branded stuffs.  I personally don’t mind people who love posting selfies, branded stuffs or things which are mentioned above. I think that’s their rights, and I don’t think those as excessive behaviour. Things I don’t like to see on social media are posts or pictures that full of hatred, racism, insult, or abuse. This is just my opinion, though.

fabfb37e64fac4847044639654abfda2

Excessive attention seeking behaviour is sometimes annoying for some people. But it’s not us to judge, because judgmental character can lead us to the bullying behaviour. We have all heard or read about people who committed suicide after got bullied because of their activities in social media. In my opinion, if you feel so annoyed by excessive behaviour of some people, the best way to do is ignoring them. For example, you can unfollow those accounts or block if you think they are getting so annoying, like spamming you or give you hatred comments etc.  But once again, it depends on personal. Some people are easily annoyed but some don’t even feel bothered by the excessive attention-seeking behaviour at all. Some decide not to be on social networking because they’re not interested, some are addicted to it. Well, my thought is, if you are on social media, don’t take it too seriously. Millions people are there, everyone has different personality, you can’t control them. So, take it easy. But, I think while we’re on social media, we also need to control ourselves in order not to be excessive. I mean it’s to protect us from some bad things. For instance, you might ever hear about some people who stole pictures of babies and abuse them. So, being wise on social media is needed.

Well, maybe this is all I can write. There is no intention to offend certain people here in my writing. The conclusion of my writing is, in my opinion, that the self-expression and seeking attention are not bad things if we do them in positive ways, and not excessive. This is just my opinion, and I do not impose my opinion to you. I’d be glad to hear your opinions too. Thanks for reading 🙂

Everyone Is Hero

He passed away but his legacy remains.

Small deeds lead to bigger ones. And, small deeds done are better than great deeds planned. It’s not about who we are, but what we do. It’s not about certain people. It’s me, you, and all of us. Because everyone is hero.

The term ‘Countdown’ always reminds me of New Year. Well, I don’t like celebrating New Year with a too much and crowded party all night long, I don’t see the point of that. But yeah, I love sharing moment with my family and friends while watching the fireworks. I love fireworks, who doesn’t? 🙂

Commonly, in the end of year, people tend to make New Year’s resolution to reflect on the changes they want to make. I’m not the type of person who’s interested in making list of things I need to do in the next year, to be honest. I don’t know, but I don’t want to expect. I’m a bit skeptical that if I can’t make it real, I’ll be disappointed. Because, I’m a big dreamer, but at the same time I consider myself as a lazy person. I often fail to encourage myself despite having a lot of ideas to improve. So I decide to let my life flow, but I keep dreaming.

I have a lot of dreams, some of them:

  • Being a novelist. I love writing fiction. I can get inspiration from anything. Once I have an idea, my head will process all the story line including the scenes. The thing is, as I said, I’m a lazy person. I’m so moody; really depend on my mood to write. That’s why I never did finish my novel.
  • Being an animator. I love multimedia and making simple animations. I really want to improve my skill, so I can make more variety commercial animations. But yeah, I’m too lazy to do so.
  • Having many kind of business, such as photography studio and a clothing line with my own design and brand. I already have concept, but it just remains a concept because I don’t do some worthy efforts to make it real.

I’m that bad. I never regret for things I’ve done, but I do regret for things I didn’t do. But I see no point in blaming myself. I realize that I need to do more efforts in everything, and shouldn’t allow the laziness to come 😀 And I think I still can make my dreams happen. May be I just need to simplify them. I shouldn’t think much about this and that in realizing my dreams. People can’t reach all of their dreams overnight, so I should start with a small step. Perhaps I need to change my assumption that the to-do-list will end up being an unreachable expectation, but it could be the reminder and motivation for me to make consistent steps in order to make my dreams happen. The most important thing of all that I should be a better person. Through the good and bad, I thank 2014. And I’m ready for the new challenges in 2015 🙂

AADC2014 Fever

2014 (AADC2014). And after watching the whole video, I couldn’t help clicking the replay button. I smiled for no reason while watching it. I found this video so addicting! I’ve watched it like 5 times, and I think I’m gonna watch it again. Yes I am AADC’ed, hahaha 🙂 Awalnya, aku pikir cuma aku saja yang tergila-gila sama video berdurasi 10 menit 25 detik ini. Tapi setelah aku baca comment video ini di youtube, dan di twitter, instagram, everywhere, everyone was talking about it! And most of them were just like me, felt addicted and watched this video many times. I wasn’t the only one, lol.

Who doesn’t know AADC? To be honest, aku dulu nggak nonton filmnya di bioskop, karena masih belum ngerti banget film cinta-cintaan. But there’s something that made this movie special.

Back to AADC2014. And many other questions. Good job! Dan Rangga… he looks more mature of course. He looks so ‘man’, ah I’m in love, hahaha.

And these two are on my top list, hahaha.

And they walked up to each other. Gazing. Smiling. (Rangga’s smile is so adorable. Is it just me, or does his smile melt many girls? 🙂 ). And when we started catching the emotions, the chemistry, the romantic atmosphere… the so called “Love, Life, Line” destroyed it, hahaha.

I appreciate Line so much, though. It’s a very cool mini drama. Apart from the promotion things, it actually doesn’t look like an advertisement, it’s more like a teaser for a full sequel movie of AADC. Kasian kan Cinta udah di-PHP 12 tahun, jangan di-PHP lagi dong, hahaha. Anyway, we want the full sequel of AADC! 🙂
